Superior Air Duct: Water Damage To Your Home, Part 1

Superior Air Duct Cleaning Looks At Water Damage, Part 1

If water damage has occurred in your home, you may not realize that your indoor air quality is at risk. What you breathe in can be dangerous to your health, and water damage can spread mold and mildew through the air in your home. In today’s blog, the professionals at Superior Air Duct Cleaning look at how to handle water damage in your home.

What Do We Mean By Water Damage?

Water damage refers to a large number of possible problems caused by water intruding in your home. Water damage may include rotting wood, rusting metal, mold, mildew, and damage to your duct system. Water damage may occur slowly over time or cause big problems all at once.

What Causes Water Damage?

The most common causes are leaking plumbing, leaking roofs, appliance leaks, condensation from your air conditioner, and natural disasters. Leaks from kitchen sinks or water heaters are easier to handle since the leak is freshwater. Toilets and plumbing leaks, however, carry sewage and increase the risk of bacteria, mold, and viruses.

Condensation usually forms from high humidity levels in your home. In several instances, water damage from condensation can be difficult to notice, slowly seeping into flooring and within walls. Homeowners should watch out for excess condensation on windows, particularly during the cooler months of winter.

Impact On Your Health

Just as lungs transfer oxygen into your bloodstream, your air ducts distribute air throughout your home, and any unhealthy airborne elements go along for the ride.

General exposure to mold presents a multitude of health problems, causing congestion, throat irritation, and coughing, even for healthy adults. For those with health problems, certain kinds of mold can induce allergies and become serious problems for daily living. Children are particularly susceptible to mold, resulting in asthma attacks, infections, and pneumonia. Pollen and other allergens are also a concern, and they become worse due to humidity from water damage.

When You Have Water Damage

When dealing with water damage in your house, you should first identify and repair the source of the damage. Dry the area as quickly as possible. Next, clean up the area by disposing of affected furniture and carpets.

We recommend contacting the certified professionals at Superior Air Duct Cleaning to scan for potentially dangerous situations in your air handling systems. It’s also a good idea to schedule recurring air duct inspections and cleanings to confirm that mold isn’t hidden in your home’s ductwork.

Robert was on schedule and communicated what time he would arrive. He was polite, professional, and respectful of our home. I wanted to wait a couple weeks before posting a review because I wanted to see if the duct cleaning actually made a difference. I am happy to say it did! I vacuum multiple times a week and have already noticed a significant reduction in the amount of dust cleaned up each time. As a home with pets, there will always be something to clean, but getting the ducts cleaned has definitely helped improve the air quality and reduce the dust.

Technician Rob arrived early explained the days agenda and then proceeded to work methodically and meticulously over the next 6+ hours cleaning my ductwork.  Courteous and professional they answered all of my questions and went above and beyond the call of duty.  They even located an old dusty box of rat poison buried in our vents.  My only regret is not finding these guys sooner.  As a realtor of 22 years and owner of a newly purchased (now dust free) home I highly recommended!

Excellent service! I’ve used them to clean out my air ducts as well as my dryer vent duct and they are excellent. I was very pleased with both jobs and will continue to use them in the future. Great communication as well- from the time I scheduled the appointment until they were at my door.
